About

Dr. Akruti Desai is an ophthalmic plastic surgeon who has had advanced training in some of world’s best eye institutes and has experience of over a decade in this field. Ophthalmic plastic surgery encompasses cosmetic, reconstructive surgery around the eye and deals with conditions of eyelid in-turning, out-turning, droopiness, loose skin, twitching eyelid, eyelid cancer, injury or fracture of bones around eyes, watering of eyes due to problems of tear ducts or gland, eye cancer etc.

After completing her post-graduation from National Board (Delhi), she worked as a senior registrar at K.E.M Hospital, Mumbai. She then went on to pursue a 2-year long-term fellowship in Orbit, Oculoplasty, Aesthetic and Reconstructive services from the prestigious Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. She then worked at Dr. Agarwals’ Eye Institute, Chennai and further developed a niche in oculoplasty at its various branches.

Since 2018, she worked for more than 3 years in faculty position at L V Prasad Eye Institute, which has trained some of the best eye doctors and researchers of the country. She kept honing her skills through this period, learning from colleagues and seniors in the field and gained immense expertise. In 2019, she organized a pan-India meeting with the most renowned faculty & with Dr. Peter Dolman, Professor at University of British Columbia as guest international faculty at LVPEI, Visakhapatam. She is also a Fellow of All India Collegium of Ophthalmology (subspecialty of Oculoplasty).

She firmly believes that along with sound training, literature and continuous education, empathy and “putting yourself in patients’ shoes” is a must to be able to offer optimal outcomes.

She has been a member of the Scientific Committee of Oculoplasty Association of India meeting held in mumbai on 11-13 November 2022
